Most people have heard of acupuncture, but many are not sure about its underlying philosophy and procedures. We hope to answer some of these questions and concerns in a series of blog posts. First, what is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a complex branch of ancient traditional medicine with 5 main principals.
#1-There are fourteen major energy channels called meridians that course through the human body head to toe, inside to outside.
#2-An energy called Chi or Qi (pronounced CHEE) circulates via the meridians to all parts of the body.
#3-Chi is the vital force of life and its flow is critical to sound health.
#4-Any misdirection, blockage, or other disorder of the Chi may result in pain, dysfunction, and ill health.
#5-With acupuncture needles, or other means such as laser or acupressure, the acupuncturist stimulates certain points along the course of the meridians. Such stimulation helps restore the normal balance and flow of Chi so organs and the bodily system can work together in harmony. When you come in for acupuncture, we are setting your body up to repair and maintain its own health.
Next post we will be diving into more about meridians.
